Dontia T Ward

Dontia Tamika Ward, affectionately known as “Tia,” was born to Clarence and Starla Ward on October 24, 1989 and departed this life on Thursday, December 29, 2016.  She was surrounded by her loving family, and dearest friend, Carlos Alvarez, in Ochsner Hospital ICU unit in Kenner, LA.

She leaves to cherish her loving mother, Starla Ward of Ocean Springs, MS, and a sister, Estrella, and (Joel Pace of Dallas, TX) and a devoted friend, Carlos Alvarez of Gulfport, MS.  She, also, leaves to cherish a host of other relatives and friends.

Dontia was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Ward.

Dontia "Tia" Ward was a handful and sassy. When asked her name, she would say, "My name is Titi Mika Ward.", in her small childlike voice, and bob her head. Because her family was in the military, she was moved almost 1,000 miles away from her friends in Junction City, KS all the way to the Gulf Coast of Mississippi to Ocean Springs. She was sad as any 13-year-old would be, but while in MS, she found wonderful new friends for life, and was a member of the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ in Pascagoula.

While pursuing her career, she worked at Wal-Mart.  She attended MGCCC with an emphasis in Early Childhood Development, due to her love and passion for children that extended to her working with various daycares, babysitting, and caring for her friends' children.  Many lives will forever be touched by the impact she had in their early years.  Not only children, but Tia, also had a fondness for animals and loved dogs.  

Although sassy, she was the kindest person you could ever meet.  She enjoyed hanging out with her friends, shopping, going to the beach, and swimming. She had an ability to draw people to her, as well as always being giving "giving the clothes off her back!"  Tia would not only give her "clothes," as her giving included things like money, her car, her expertise, and her time. For example, there were many times that she would babysit…without asking for compensation.  She will forever and always be loved and missed stupendously!
