Mr. Darcel Moabb Fairley was born March 6, 1974 at Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula, MS. The last of the nine children born to Alec and Cleo Fairley, he quickly captured the hearts of not only his siblings, but also all who knew him, becoming a favorite of many of the relatives who lived nearby. So many of the traits that endeared him to others in adulthood were visible even when he was a toddler: lovable, kind, smart, friendly, and curious with a vivid imagination and easy laugh.
His Life’s Beginning
As a child, Darcel had boundless energy that required the watchful care of not only Mom and Dad, but also the two youngest sisters, “Pebbles and ‘Tilia,” who doted on him and looked out for him. Endless hours playing with him involved listening to his wise-cracks and his non-stop imitations of his favorite TV characters (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Fonz); watching him run around with Mark (the Incredible Hulk) and Shaun (the chief mischief-maker); and watching his imagination at play while he created and played with paper football players and rock guitarists. Early on, Darcel showed a deep capacity to care for others and always wanted to make sure other kids around him were OK.
