ALEX MARCELLE JOE, affectionately known as “Marcelle,” passed away peacefully on April 27, 2024, surrounded by his family at Singing River Hospital. Marcelle was born on March 5, 1967, to Francine Lafargue-McCuller and Alex S. Joe in Pascagoula, MS.
Marcelle was baptized at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church and attended St. Peter’s Elementary School. He went on to attend Pascagoula Junior High (now Trentlott Middle School) and graduated from Pascagoula High School, Class of 1987. He enlisted in the United States Army (Fort Campbell) in the same year. He worked for Litton Industries and then American Plant Services as a drill operator for 25 years until his health failed. Marcelle helped organize the “Coast Boyz” traveling basketball team for youths, which he enjoyed for many years. He loved spending time with his children, family, and friends; he also enjoyed barbeques, football, and basketball games. Marcelle was truly loved by everyone whom he encountered and will be greatly missed.
Marcelle was preceded in death by his grandparents, Reba and John Lafargue, Sr., and Lillian and Louis Joe, Sr., and many other beloved family members.
His memories will forever be remembered in the lives of lifelong partner of 31 years, Geanette Boyсе; parents, Francine K. McCuller and Alex (Nadine) Joe; children, Shamari A. Lovett, Sharnette A. Joe, Alex M. Joe, Jr., and Jeremy R. Flora; four grandchildren, Amari N. Lovett, Armond D. Lovett, Alaya D. Lovett, and Londyn A. Bass; four sisters, Paula (Garnett) Dewar of Atlanta, GA, Dana (Brian) Foster, Sr., of Jacksonville, FL, Tiffany A. McCuller of Pascagoula, MS, and Alexis Joe (Renita) Parson of Ocean Springs, MS; aunts; Cheryl A. Lafargue of Pascagoula, Marcella Lafargue, Blanche Lafargue of Sandimas, CA, Rose Joe (David) Stephens of Meridian, MS, Chrystal (Roger) Gates of Ocean Springs, Alexis (Melvin) Joe of Diberville, MS, Sharon Joe of Pascagoula and Debra (Al) Lee of Moss Point, MS; uncles, Louis (Janie) Jue of Houston, TX, Daryl (Gwen) Joe of Moss Point, MS, and John (Sonny) Lafargue, Jr., of Sandimas, CA; childhood and lifelong friend, Troy (Toya) Cobb; godparents, Elaine Hunter and Joseph Pitts, Jr.; extended families, the Leroys, Durdens, McElroys, Sabinos, Petites, Cooks, Boyces, and Middletons; and many cousins and other friend.
