“Joey” Benny Joe Thompson II, 54, lost his battle with heart failure on April 17th, 2024 in Gautier, Mississippi. He was born on May 29th, 1969, in Selma Alabama to Benny Joe Thompson and Joyce Howell Thompson.
Joey, a caring husband, stepfather, brother, and son was preceded in death by his wife, Christy Kaney Thompson and his mother, Joyce Thompson. He leaves behind cherished memories for his father, Benny Joe Thompson; his younger brothers, Lance [Julie] Thompson and Brett Thompson; his stepchildren Madison and Seth; and nieces, Chloe, Carlise, and Emily.
He loved the outdoors - specifically, being on the water. He spent his early years as a deep-sea fishing captain throughout the Gulf of Mexico. He enjoyed kayaking, fishing off his dock with his dog, Coco, and making lures and fishing gear.
He had an impressive book collection, including first editions, history, fiction, and graphic novels. Joey was thoughtful. His face would light up when he brought you something that reminded him of you. He enjoyed cooking, teaching, and creating. He loved learning. He was a self-taught programmer, which led him to his technical career as a civilian systems and database analyst for Noblis and the United States Navy.
Joey, the eldest of three boys, was raised in a nurturing home filled with love and surrounded by family. Upon hearing of his sudden passing, cousins reminisced about him reading stories to them as infants, while friends shared fond memories of him and his best friend Derek growing up together in Selma. His unexpected departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and cherished him.
