COREY APPLEWHITE Obituary

Corey Charles Applewhite, of Moss Point, Mississippi, went home to glory on September 27, 2025, at the age of 56.

Corey was born in Pascagoula, MS, to Willie Charles Applewhite and Annie Pearl Applewhite. From an early age, Corey carried a strong work ethic and a sharp wit that shaped his life and the lives of those around him. At just 21, he began his career as a cable puller, where his dedication and leadership quickly set him apart. Over the course of more than 35 years, Corey rose through the ranks as a lead and welding apprentice, eventually becoming a supervisor. His steady hands, skill, and mentorship left a lasting impact on countless coworkers and friends.

Outside of work, Corey lived life fully and passionately. Hunting and fishing were his greatest joys, and he made sure to share those experiences with his children and grandchildren, teaching them the value of patience, nature, and tradition. At home, he was known for his baking and grilling, as well as his quick humor, often lighting up the family group text with jokes that left everyone smiling. He also found joy in simple comforts, like drinking out of his favorite jelly cup, a ritual that reflected his down-to-earth spirit. With his grandchildren, Corey was a source of endless fun, playing with his granddaughters and making them giggle until their cheeks ached.

Corey’s role as a father, grandfather, brother, and partner was the center of his world. He was a strong, guiding presence for his daughters and a proud, doting grandfather who created memories that will be cherished forever. As the only son among his siblings, Corey fiercely protected and supported his sisters, while never missing the chance to tease them with brotherly love.

Corey is preceded in death by his father, Willie Charles Applewhite.

He is survived by his daughters: Ciara Applewhite Hill (Jalen Hill), Monae LaCor Applewhite, and Cierra Yvonne Clay Dorsett; mother, Annie Pearl Applewhite; his sisters Deborah Applewhite-Charles (Samuel Charles) and Miranda Kaye Applewhite; his devoted friend, Latoya Johnson; ex-wife, Monica Applewhite; his beloved grandchildren Caslynn and Jaiauna Hill, Jaleah Roberson, Riley Thurman, and Ian Quinn; and his nieces TaiKyearra Applewhite-Johnson (Joseph Johnson) and CaNaiya North. Corey’s memory will live on through the laughter he sparked, the lessons he taught, the love he gave so freely, and the simple joys that made him uniquely him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” – 2 Corinthians 5:8
