Charles Millender Obituary

Charles Millender was born on October 9, 1928, to George and Marvella Robbins Millender in Escatawpa, Mississippi. On June 10, 2026, he peacefully transitioned from this life into eternal rest, surrounded by loved ones at the home of his daughter and caregiver, Sharron.

Over his 97 years of life, Charles wore many hats: he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. To some, he was their "Superman," and to others, he was affectionately known as "Granddaddy" or "Paw Paw," whom all loved beyond words. He was well-known for his humble spirit and generous heart, which helped him to give freely of himself. Charles was a proud graduate of the Magnolia High School Class of 1949, where he played both football and basketball. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and married the love of his life, Amelia Ruth Huckleby, on February 18, 1951. Once his tour of duty ended, he joined the International Paper Company, where he dedicated 44 years of hard work before retiring. Deeply rooted in his faith and community, Charles was a faithful member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men. He was also a long-time member of the American Legion Charles Clark Post #243, serving in many different capacities until his health began to fail.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 60 years, Amelia Ruth; his brother, George Arthur Millender; his great-granddaughter, Kinsley Safford; along with seven brothers-in-law and six sisters-in-law.

He leaves to cherish his memory his three daughters: Beverly (Charles) Woodside of Gautier, Mississippi; Eunice Safford of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; and Sharron (Damian) Millender of Moss Point, Mississippi; and his two sons: George (Allyson) Millender of Jacksonville, Florida, and Charles (Debra) Millender of Moss Point, Mississippi.

He is also survived by his sister, Carrie Joseph of Springfield, Massachusetts, and two brothers, Robert Millender of Los Angeles, California, and Calvin (Gloria) Millender of Shreveport, Louisiana. His beautiful legacy will continue to live on through his grandchildren: Sabrina (Harold) Robinson, Cornelius (Krystal) Safford, Bryant Millender, Orenthal JoJo Butler, Ashley (Fredel) Smith, Alisha (Timothy) Mims, Brandon (Zandra) Safford, Laresa Deering, Shaye Millender, Monique Smith, Janiya Morgan, and Loreal Banks; his great-grandchildren: Takya, Jamarius, Chloé, Zymya, Kaleah, Jordon, Cason, Amelia, and Alivia, along with his special helper, Rylee; his great-great-grandchildren: Kalani, Kaleigh, and Ky'Omie. Charles also leaves behind his extended family of compassionate caregivers: NP Kendra Gardner at Family Care Center, Enhabit Hospice, Nurse Lauren, and CNA Tee, alongside a host of other loving relatives and friends.
