Dennis Eugene Sellers, 66, passed away from cancer peacefully on Mother’s Day, May 12, 2024.
Dennis was born June 20, 1957, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to Eugene Q. and C. Ruth Sellers, the
second of five children. The family moved to Moss Point in 1963, and Dennis graduated from Moss
Point High School, Class Of 1975. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the Army where he spent 4
years in service. Dennis regaled us with many entertaining stories of his time in the Army when in
service to his Country. After leaving the Service, Dennis worked several years at Ingalls, briefly with
the City of Pascagoula, and spent a few years on oil rigs. Dennis worked in the family business of
fishing and crabbing, spending many mornings and afternoons on the Bayous. Dennis made a mean
crab trap and built many-a-fishing nets, stringing them across the backyard to hand weave them. He
was a dedicated and beloved member of his family, leaving behind a lifetime of good memories spent
grilling in the yard, gardening, gathering around the family table to play games, and howling laughter.
Dennis loved Jeopardy and hated to miss it. He was a talented history buff and could provide answers
along with the best of Jeopardy Champions throughout the years. Dennis loved all animals –
especially cats, chocolate-covered cherries, the Saints, and his family. He had a dry sense of humor
and was especially funny if you knew him well. Most of his jokes were under his breath, so you could
only hear the witty sass if and when you were close by.
Dennis is preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, Ruth; sister Beverly J. (Joseph)
Carlisle of Pascagoula, MS; brother, Joel M (Daphne) Sellers of Lucedale, MS; sister Carolyn R. Owen
of Carriere, MS; brother, Robin G. Sellers of Moss Point, MS; along with numerous nieces, nephews
and extended family and friends.
We would like to say a special thanks to his best friend EJ Jones for being there for him and helping
him in his last days. Also, thank you to Beverly and Joey for taking him to cancer treatments and doing
everything you could for the family. Lastly, to the Drs and staff of Singing River Cancer Center and St.
Joseph Hospice.
The memorial service will be led by Rev Larry Pickering, on Friday, May 17, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Pleasant
Hill Methodist Church, 111 Pleasant Hill Church Rd, Lucedale, MS 39452.
