Gay Dawn Scarbrough, born November 25th 1955, passed away peacefully on April 11th 2026 after a fiercely fought battle with a long illness. Gay (or as her favorite people called her Gay-Gay) lived life with a bravery and honesty that we could all admire and learn from. She had no filter and could tell you exactly how it was with no hesitation, but she also loved so fiercely and without limit. She adored music, she loved having a lively afternoon outside blasting her favorite songs and dancing with her friends. She was a mean cook, most famously known for her gumbo, red beans and rice (a personal favorite of her beloved air fern), and seafood sin. She loved feeding her family, friends, and her community and they loved sharing a plate and memorable conversation with her in return. She worked tirelessly to give her family all the love and opportunities she could provide. Because of that love, she raised not only 3 strong and independent children, but a whole community of wonderful people who proudly call her Mama. She was a person who left a lasting impression the moment you met her, and the joy she brought to the world will certainly never be forgotten. May we all strive to live life to the absolute fullest like our beloved Gay-Gay did.
Gay is preceded in death by her husband Robert, her daughter Amy, her sister Kim, her brother Von, her sweet Derrick, her granddaughter Hope, and her nephew Todd.
She will be remembered by her sons, Michael and Robert(Christy), her son in love Elvis, her brothers Mike, Edward(Karen) and Loyal(Vicki), her sister Star, her grandchildren Dixie, Jayden, Adelyn, and Henry, and her beloved adopted children and grandchildren that she raised as her own.
She was everyone’s Mama, and we are deeply blessed beyond measure to have been her children.
