Gene “Nero” Austin Cherry Sr. was born on March 8th, 1938 to the union of Oille Cherry and Cliniece Stallworth Broughton in Escatawpa, MS. Nero worked at Thiokol (Morton International) and retired in 1999 after 41 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ollie Cherry and Cliniece Stallworth Broughton; daughter Tara Arita Marie Cherry; brothers Levant Cherry, AC “Snook” Cherry, Robert “Buster” Cherry Sr., and Joseph “Boo Boo” Broughton; and sister Fannie Mae Cherry Millender.
Nero leaves to cherish his memories: his wife Clarice Cherry, Moss Point, MS; daughters Lillian Cherry, Moss Point, MS, Letitia Lee, Baton Rouge, LA, Marlene McClain-Bogan Escatawpa, MS, and LaWanda Cherry Houston, TX; sons Gene Cherry Jr., Moss Point, MS, Xavier Cherry (Beatrice), Atlanta, GA; Craig Moffett, Gautier, MS and Reginald Bridges, Ocean Springs, MS; two step-children Karla Miller, Gautier, MS and James Miller Jr., Bay St. Louis, MS; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; brother Thomas Stallworth Sr. (Mary), Moss Point, MS; sisters Jean Franklin, Pensacola, FL, Lillie Pearl Nelson, Moss Point, MS and Shelia Green (Fred), Detroit, MI; and a host of family and friends.
