Jerry Bridges was born on December 21, 1946, in Mobile, Alabama, to the late Alex and Irene Bridges. Though born in Mobile, Jerry made Moss Point, Mississippi, his home, where he lived most of his life surrounded by family, friends, and love. Jerry was a man of quiet strength, kindness, and humility. He lived a life filled with compassion, laughter, and a deep love for those around him.
He was employed at Ingalls Shipbuilding, where he worked faithfully for many years before retiring. His hard work, craftsmanship, and dependable nature earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him. Outside of work, Jerry enjoyed the simple pleasures of life — especially fishing, which brought him peace and joy. Whether it was a calm morning on the water or sharing stories with loved ones, fishing was one of his favorite pastimes that reflected his patient and gentle spirit.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Alex and Irene Bridges; his brothers Alex Bridges Jr., James Bridges, Morris Bridges, Frank Bridges, and Franklin Bridges; and his sisters Ella Mae Dark, Louise Gibson, Irene Barnes, Maxine Ezell, Mable Sellers, and Sadie Jones.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory two devoted sisters, Wanda Johnson of Pascagoula, Mississippi, and Gwendolyn Bridges of Mobile, Alabama; three brothers, Randolph (Shirley) Bridges, Marion Bridges, and David Bridges, all of Mobile, Alabama; one son, Delrico Alexander; two devoted nieces, April (Michael) Ward of Moss Point, Mississippi, and Chavone Felder of Pascagoula, Mississippi; one devoted nephew, Robert (Jennifer White) Shelton; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly. Jerry will be remembered for his gentle heart, joyful spirit, and the love and laughter he shared with everyone he met. Though he is no longer with us in body, his memory and legacy will forever live in our hearts.
