The greatest man our family has ever known passed away peacefully at our home on Red Bluff Road, on Monday, April 19, 2021. Mr. James Travis Kittrell, age 76, was born March 19, 1945, in George County, Mississippi. He grew up in the Bexley community and graduated from George County High School. After school, he joined the Navy, where he served aboard the U.S.S. Mountrail hunting Russian subs during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After the Navy, he worked at Ingalls as an outside Machinist for 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. “Sack” Kittrell, and Gloria Lucille Boulware Kittrell of Bexley, MS; his loving soulmate and wife, Linda Gayle Coleman Kittrell of Hurley, MS; and a brother, Gerald Dennis Kittrell.
He is survived by his sister, Hilda Kittrell Davis of Rocky Creek, MS; a brother, Terry Michael Kittrell of Bexley, MS; his daughters, Daphne Martin, and Stephani Cowden; grandchildren, Logan Dallmann, Aaron Cowden, James “J.T.” Martin, Christopher Kittrell, and Samuel Kittrell, all of Hurley, MS; nephews, Chris (Kim) Davis of Lucedale and family, and Lester “Man” (Sonya) Coleman and family of Vancleave, MS, along with a host of relatives and friends that will all miss him dearly.
