John Mark Redmond, Sr., of Moss Point, Mississippi, passed away on Wednesday, May 13,
2026.
John lived a life marked by service, strength, love, and steady devotion to the people closest to
him. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he
was awarded both the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart. His service reflected courage,
sacrifice, and honor, and it remained an important part of who he was throughout his life.
John was the beloved husband of the late Callie Rene Redmond, with whom he shared 53
years of marriage. Together, they built a life rooted in family, loyalty, and love. Their years
together were filled with commitment, perseverance, and the kind of bond that stands as an
example to those who knew them.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Callie Rene Redmond, and his son, John Mark Redmond
II.
John is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Lucas; his grandchildren, Derek Lucas, Joni Creel,
and Aaron Lucas; his great-grandchildren, John Ferrill and LylaWren Creel; and his brothers,
David Redmond and Jeremiah Redmond. He is also survived by other family members and
friends who loved him and will miss him dearly.
Beyond his military service and his role as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather,
and brother, John was a man who appreciated the simple things in life. He loved to read and
could often be found with a book nearby. Reading was one of his quiet joys, something that kept
his mind active and gave him comfort through the years.
John was also a familiar face at the Waffle House just down the road from where he lived. He
went there almost every day, and over time it became more than just a place to eat. It became
part of his routine, part of his community, and part of the life he built in Moss Point. To many, he
was not just a customer. He was a steady presence, someone people recognized, welcomed,
and remembered.
John also had a strong work ethic and never liked to sit still for too long. He was always
working, starting projects, fixing things, and finding ways to stay busy and productive around his
home. Whether it was a task that needed to be done or a project he simply decided to begin,
John believed in keeping his hands moving and making good use of his time.
Those who knew John will remember him for his strength, his service, his love for his family, and
the steady way he lived his life. He carried himself with quiet dignity. He had endured much,
served bravely, loved deeply, and remained connected to the simple daily rhythms that made his
life his own.
John’s legacy lives on through his family, through the memories shared by those who loved him,
and through the example of a life lived with courage, loyalty, work ethic, and heart.
