Mr. Karam R. Shakir, a native of River Rouge, Michigan and a resident of Gautier, MS for the past 45 years, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 22, 2020. Karam transitioned from this earthly world surrounded by his loving family and friends at Ocean Springs Hospital. He was employed by Huntington Ingalls Shipyard as a painter for 14 years and self-employed as a trucker and professional painter for years. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps who proudly served in the Vietnam War.
He is preceded in death by his father, Levert HemmingWay Sr., and mother, Mary HemmingWay.
Karam is survived by his loving family, his devoted wife, Leslie M. Shakir of 41 years; son, Frederick (Felisha) Abrams of Brighton, TN; two daughters, Safiyyah (Cedric Langham) Shakir of Pascagoula, MS and Maryam Shakir of Gautier, MS; sister, Letta Cosby; brother-in-law, Jimmy W. (Linda) Abrams of Tuscaloosa, AL; father-in-law, John Abrams Sr.; sister-in-law, Cynthia (Carl) Burton of Gautier, MS; grandchildren, Danielle Shakir, Dominick Dees Jr., Jaylen Langham, Cierra Ward, Cedric Langham Jr., all of Pascagoula, MS, Frederick Abrams Jr., and Mya Abrams, both of Brighton, TN; cousins, Gregory and Kathy Foreman, George and Arnavel Flood III, Rita Harris, Joyce and Willie Mann; special friends, Michael and Carolyn Beaver; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
