Maryland Fletcher was a native of Tennessee and a resident of Pascagoula, Mississippi
for the past 9 years, passed away at the age of 69, Sunday, February 9, 2025 at the local
hospital. Preceded in death by her father, Burl Bailey, born in Tennessee, her mother,
Lillian Chestina Purvis, born in Mississippi, and her sister, Gwendelyn Elizabeth Bailey,
born in Tennessee. Survived by her child, Amanda (Chris) Fletcher from Tennessee.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and a
beloved animal lover. Maryland’s love for all animals, particularly dogs, was evident to all
who knew her. She had a deep connection with the creatures she cared for, and they, in
turn, returned that love unconditionally.
Maryland dearly loved wolves which reflected the fact that she was a spirited and strongwilled
individual, was known for her stubbornness and fiery nature, but she also loved
fiercely with all her heart. She lived life fully and brought a bright energy to those around
her, always ready to share a laugh or a moment of joy. Her sense of adventure was
matched only by her compassion for others.
Maryland resided at River Chase Village Nursing Home located in Gautier, Mississippi
where she enjoyed spending time with many friends, especially over a game of Skip-Bo,
where her competitive spirit and laughter filled the room. Her vibrant social nature made
her a cherished companion, and her friendships were a testament to her generous heart.
She was a woman of faith, finding strength and peace in her spiritual beliefs. Maryland’s
legacy is one of love, loyalty, and a reminder to always embrace life to the fullest.
A memorial service will be held at River Chase Village Nursing Home, Gautier, MS at 2 pm
on February 19, 2025. Maryland will be buried next to her mother and sister in Memorial
Park Cemetery, Memphis, Tennessee in March of 2025.
