Ms. Mattie Lou Woods, 82, was born on March 1, 1939, in Monroeville, AL, and was a resident of Moss Point, MS for the past 64 years. She was called home to be with the Lord on the morning of April 26, 2021. Mattie had a heart of gold and never met a stranger. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Mattie was a hard worker and formerly retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding of 20 years. She also was a retired substitute teacher.
Mattie was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Charlie and Dossie Nettles; two sisters, Inez Dickerson and Roy Nettles; two brothers, Foster Nettles and SJ Rivers; and her son, Dewayne A. Preyear.
Mattie loving memories will forever linger in the hearts of her 5 children, her devoted daughter, Charlotte Dianne Preyear (Moss Point, MS), Doris Donald (Pascagoula, MS), Artheta Preyear-Gill (Diberville, MS), and sons, Pastor Christopher (Jeraline) Preyear (Gautier, MS), and LaMance (Jackie) Woods (Katy, TX); two brothers, William (Daisian) Nettles (Moss Point, MS), and Joe Lewis (Doris) Nettles (North Carolina); 12 grandchildren, her devoted grandson, Glen “JR” (Roslyn) Donald; Aniva (Benjamin) Crandle, Chad Donald, Shaniya-Johnson (Demetrius) Gayden, Demaurio (Lana) Preyear, Quelia (Alex) Gadsden, Montre (Erin) Carter, Todd (Monei) Thomas, Paige Bourgeois, Trevor Woods, Trinity Woods, and Tyson Woods; 19 great-grandchildren; three god-daughters, Malina Crear (Moss Point, MS), Monica (Leonard) Pettway (Millbrook, AL), and Valerie Magee (Lawrenceville, GA); a devoted friend, Gloria Eskridge, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
