MR. THOMAS “MIKE” SAFFORD, age 71, was a native and resident of Moss Point, MS. On Monday, December 19, 2022, Mike transitioned from this earthly world to his heavenly home. Mike was a loving man with a beautiful spirit that was loved by many.
Mike attended Magnolia High School in Moss Point, MS, and was affiliated with St. Paul United Methodist Church in Moss Point, MS. On February 27, 1977, he was united in holy matrimony to the former Eunice Millender by the Honorable Rev. James Parker in Escatawpa, MS.
Mike was the firstborn son of Thomas A. Safford and Fannie Mae Cherry. He worked as a drywall finisher for many years with Smith Homes in Gautier, MS. Mike was the former owner/operator of Mike’s Small Engine Repair Shop in Escatawpa, MS. He was good with his hands and loved to restore old cars and could break a car engine down or transmission, then rebuild it with no problem. Mike was a do-it-yourself type of person with a mind that could pick up on things so easily. Helping people was another great attribute he had. Mike would put other people’s needs before his own.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas A. (Jeanette) Safford; mother, Fannie Mae (Mack) Millender; brother, Herman Safford; sister, Geneva Thompson; grandson, Jabbarri Gibson; and granddaughter, Kinsley Safford.
Mike leaves many great memories to cherish to his devoted wife, Eunice Safford of Ocean Springs; children, Janiya Safford of Ocean Springs, MS, Cornelius (Krystal) Safford of Savannah, GA, Brandon (Zandra) Safford of Hattiesburg, MS, Latonya Gibson and Kelli Morris, both of Moss Point, MS, Kenya Watson of Atlanta, GA, O’ Kemah Watson of Gautier, MS; sisters, Luci Safford of Escawtawpa, MS, Denise Galloway and Dian Acosta, both of Jacksonville, FL, Cherrie Betts and Victoria Thomas, both of Moss Point, MS; brothers, Vince Safford, Ralph Safford, Tim (Norma) Nelson, Mack (Faye) Millender, John (Queta) Johnson, all of Moss Point, MS, and Kurt Nelson of Three Rivers, MS; father-in-law, Charles Millender of Moss Point, sisters-in-law, Marshall Safford of Escawtapa, MS, Beverly (Charles) Woodside of Gautier, MS, and Sharon (Damian) Millender; brothers-in-law, George (Allyson) Millender of Jacksonville, FL, and Charles (Debra) Millender of Moss Point, MS; grandchildren, Zymya, Chloe, Kaleah, Jordon, Cason, Ty’Quiria, Taveon, Nikia, Kylon, Dylon, O’Kemah, Le Ashlin, Melanie, and Andreana; great-grandchildren, Ka’Marion, Boston, and Bronx; along with a host of many other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
