Wesley “Bunk” Small passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the age of 92,
surrounded by his loved ones. Born on December 21, 1933, in Silas, Alabama, to Leona
and Wesley Small, Bunk moved to Pascagoula at an early age and called it home for
the remainder of his life.
Faith and Fellowship
Bunk’s heart belonged to his First Baptist Church family. The absolute highlight of his
week was attending Sunday School and church services, where his warmth and humor
made him a beloved presence in the pews. His faith was the foundation of his long life,
and he took great pride in being a part of his congregation.
A Master Storyteller and Adventurer
Beyond his faith, Bunk was known far and wide for his gift of gab. He was a master
storyteller with a rare talent for weaving outrageous narratives that were as entertaining
as they were unforgettable. He had an uncanny ability to turn any moment into a grand
adventure, leaving everyone in the room smiling.
Bunk and his wife, Phyllis, shared a deep love for travel. Together, they embarked on
many wonderful adventures near and far, creating a lifetime of memories across the
miles they traveled side by side.
Family and Legacy
Bunk was a cornerstone of his family, providing a lifetime of memories that will be
treasured for generations. He is survived by his children and their spouses: Stephanie
Ferrell (Allen), Bruce Small (Robin), Beth Simer (Harold), Susan Russell, and Kathy
Keech (David); and his stepson, Mark Garrison (D’Juana).
He is also survived by his beloved sister, Mary “Deaner” Nations, as well as numerous
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
Bunk was preceded in death by his beloved wife of five decades, Phyllis; his parents,
Leona and Wesley Small; his sister, Joann Small Rinks; and his son-in-law, Eddie
Russell.
