Ms. Willie Jane Sherrod (Sheard) was born to the late Newlean Burdell Sherrod and Perry Sherrod on January 17, 1937, in Columbus, Mississippi. She was known as “Chook” by relatives and friends.
Ms. Jane was a spiritual woman who accepted Christ at an early age and believed in going to church. She moved to Moss Point, Mississippi, in 1974, with her son (Eddie Sherrod, Sr.) and daughter (Eva Sherrod). She worked at Litton Shipyard, Eastlawn Elementary, and Gulf Coast Fisheries. Ms. Jane was an amazing and wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, singing, gardening, and caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Ms. Jane made her transition from Earth on April 12, 2023, at Singing River Hospital. She was joined in eternal rest by her mother, Newlean Sherrod; father, Perry Sherrod; son, Eddie Sherrod, Sr.; grandchild, Roshonda Scruggs; and great-grandchild, Malik Sherrod.
Ms. Jane leaves her loving memories and legacy to her daughter, Eva (James Sr.) Grady; grandchildren, Donna Sherrod Grady, James Grady, Jr., Kesha (Derrick) Mclaurin, Ka’Sandra Sherrod, Eddie (Xavier) Sherrod, Jr., and Dwayne (Kathy) Howard; three nieces, Angela Williams, Mary Ann (Eddie) Williams, and Patricia (Garlin) Robinson; two nephews, W.C. Talley and Terry Lewis; daughter-in-law, Helen Sherrod; and a host of great-grandchildren, other relatives, and friends who loved her dearly. She will be missed.
